….The car gains 2.35 x 10^4 J of gravitational potential energy during the process. What is the efficiency of the hoist?
A. 7.00%
B. 17.5%
C. 25.0%
D. 34.9%
An Internal combustion engine has an efficiency of 20.0%. This engine is used to deliver 6.00 x 10^4 J of work to the rest of the drive train. What is the total energy input?
A. 1.20 x 10^3 J
B. 4.80 x 10^3 J
C. 7.20 x 10^4 J
D. 3.00 x 10^5 J
List the following engine types in order of increasing efficiency
Daimler engine
Newcomen steam engine
Savery engine
Otto engine
Watt steam engine
(2.35*10^4)/(6.73*10^4) *100 = 34.9% Answer D is correct
100/20*(6.00*10^4) = 300,000J = 3*10^5J
Last part of your question:
Sorry you will have to look these up. This is something that does not require any calculation, and is merely reading up references, which you can do yourself

A couple of years ago I bought this car and have finally decided to fix it up and drive it. It runs good but there is so much smog control equipment on the engine that it’s a hassle to do any work without using a hoist, which I don’t own or have access to, so my question is can I remove all of the smog control equipment and run it that way without doing damage to the engine? The engine is a V8 and I believe it’s a 305.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Legally this depends on where you live. Some states exempt collector cars from emissions testing. Collector cars are usually considered vehicles 25 years old and older
But these emissions laws for collector cars vary by state. So this should be considered before you start hacking up your emissions systems. If you had to later restore these emissions controls it could get rather expensive.
If allowed where you live, mechanically it is very feasible to remove the emissions controls on this engine. However some controls you may want to keep.
You can dump the air pump, EGR valve, catalytic converter, and a lot of the vacuum actuated gizmos on the engine.
But keep these items.
Heat riser. This passes warm air across the intake manifold. Without this your carburetor will turn into a block of ice in cold damp weather. The idle jets will freeze over and the engine will stall every time you take your foot off of the accelerator.
There is a tube that runs between the exhaust manifold and the air filter snorkel. Again, this warms the air to prevent carburetor icing. Make sure the vacuum diaphragm that actuates the flapper door and the temperature sensor in the air filter housing are working correctly. Also, there is a tube that draws cool air from in front of the radiator core support. make sure that this hose has no holes in it.
PCV valve and air breather. This system draws air pressure and oil vapors from the engine crank case. Without this your engine will leak oil. You will always have an oily mess under the hood.
If the engine is indeed a 305, this is the Chevrolet 305 V8. There are many aftermarket parts available for this engine. Almost anything that fits the GEN 1 small block Chevy will fit this engine. Also, if considering an engine swap almost any Gen 1 small block Chevy will easily bolt right in.

I have a 2.5 ton Engine Hoist. it has worked fine the 2 months i have had it, lifting like it should. 2 days ago it stopped working right. with no load on it it will lift about 1 inch per pump of the handle. I put an 80lb weight on the end of a chain to lift, and it will only raise maybe 1/8 of an inch every pump. and it makes a whining sound when i pump. it is full of oil and i believe I have blead all of the air out. Do i just need to have the thing rebuilt?
the cylinder could be leaking internally. check the fluid again, check if you have no air. if it still wont work, its leaking inside. take it to be rebuilt, or return it for your money back
