looking to buy this 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z28 …?

Well i’ve been looking for quite some time now and saw this add. Seems like a very straight car. I’ve talked to the guy already also. Here’s the add. I basically want to know if this car is over priced.

1986 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z28
190,000kms
Auto
no emisions test req. due to year

This car really is in Mint condition,
Has never been winter driven as far as i know, the the condition of the body backs that up.
Car still has the origonal paint with a clean record.
The rims are origonal and still maintain the origonal coatingnewer goodyear tires (just rotated, which includes full dismount and re install due to different offsets on the front and rear rims)

Car has the factory Red interior which is pretty rare to see.
The engine is the factory 305 LG4 carburated with the factory 700R4 trans.
I had a Edelbrock performer series intake and carburator (600CFM) installed to wake it up a bit
Magnaflow high flow cat and a Pro-Flo muffler installed

Heres what the e-mail said:

there is nothing at all to hide on this car…your term "turn key" is 100% what this car is

i maintain the crap outa this car and all my self as i am a licensed tech at a toyota dealer…..so it constantly see’s the hoist……i installed a comp cams cam shaft and lifters, comp cams timing set with metal cam/crank gears……edelbrock performer series intake mani. matching performer carb. edelbrock valve covers, edelbrock open element air filter (chrome) banjo fuel fitting with inline fuel filter…brand new…..new spark plugs…..honestly man, there is nothing more that needs to be done here

…………………….

So for 4000, does this sound like a fair deal? I don’t really know alot about the LG4 performance wise compared to a L69.

Thanks alot!

It sounds very clean and nice. Well maintained. It is overpriced, however. An automatic 305 TBI camaro is not worth 4k. You could get a lt1 like someone else said, but if you like that generation, try to find a tpi305 5 speed or 350tpi. Its not THAT overpriced, especially considering how original it is. If you were looking for a clean and original camaro and didn’t really care about performance its actually not overpriced, but if you are looking to keep up with even SUV’s today, get at least a 305tpi, and I would recommend a lt1 6 speed honestly for 4k

Can I lift the engine this way?

If I attach three feet of chain from a hoist to the lifting eyes which are bolted to the cylinder head will this be enough to lift the engine. Do I need to wrap chains around the engine to support the whole thing or will lifting it directly from the eyes support it enough?.

Using the eyes is the correct procedure as that is what they are used for. Wrapping the chains around the engine may be dangerous becuase your engine is most likely not perfectly balanced and it may come out twisted, or worse yet, flip over. There are many other factors which should also be considered. What material are the chains made of? What is the strength of the material? How heavy is the engine? Are all three chains divided equally to share the load or are they strong enough to unequally share? What is the lifting capacity of the hoist? In other words, just be sure that you have enough force to safely pull the engine.
