Navy rescues 149 civilians fleeing from LTTE Cluthces
Sri Lanka Navy rescued 149 Tamil civilians who had been fleeing from the LTTE clutches in Mulaithivu on five occasions. The first group of 30 civilians was rescued on the 26th of March 2009 while the second group consisting of 55 civilians was rescued on the 29th March. The 3rd, 4th and 5th groups consisting of 10, 38 and 16 civilians respectively were rescued on the days of 30th and 31st of March and 1st of April.
All the groups had been found fleeing in white-flag hoisted dinghies when they were rescued by the Sri Navy in the seas of Mulaithivu. Upon rescuing, all were safely brought ashore at Pulmudai and provided with much-needed food, refreshments and medical istance. The rescued expressed their heart-felt gratitude to the Navy for coming to their rescue.
The exodus of the innocent Tamil civilians escaping from LTTE clutches is now on the rise. This is largely due to the confidence they have placed in the Government Security Forces whose humanitarian operations have helped Tamil civilians to extricate themselves from the terrorists’ clutches. Sri Lanka Navy has made special arrangements to ist innocent Tamil civilians fleeing from the LTTE clutches. Naval personnel and vessels along with stand-by rescue and medical teams are on special deployment for this humanitarian istance mission in the North-eastern seas.
